How Operating Systems and Mobile Apps Connect to Information Technology

Throughout this course, I have learned that information technology is not just about devices, but about how different systems work together to create the technology we use every day. One of the most relevant areas to me is operating systems and mobile applications, since they directly impact how we interact with devices in both personal and work environments. Operating systems play a major role in how computers function. They serve as the foundation that enables hardware and software to communicate. From a historical perspective, operating systems have evolved from simple command-based systems to advanced graphical interfaces that make devices easier to use. Today, modern operating systems support multitasking, security features, and application management, which are essential for both individuals and businesses. Mobile applications rely heavily on operating systems to function properly. Every app depends on the operating system to manage resources such as memory, processing power, a...

Why Information and System Security Matter More Than Ever

Information and system security play a critical role in protecting both individuals and organizations from growing digital threats. In today’s technology-driven environment, personal data, financial information, and business operations are all stored and transmitted digitally, making them attractive targets for cybercriminals. In a company like T-Mobile, security is especially important because protecting customer information is part of maintaining trust and service reliability. One network concern to be aware of is that attackers can sometimes use ping commands to determine whether a device or system is reachable. While ping itself is a basic troubleshooting tool, it can also be misused for network scanning or as part of a larger denial-of-service attack. This is one reason why organizations monitor network traffic and limit unnecessary exposure. Two security threats that feel especially relevant in a customer-facing environment are phishing or smishing and malware or ransomware. Ph...

Why Computer Literacy Matters in the Wireless Industry

Computers play a major role in the wireless industry, especially in a customer-focused environment like T-Mobile. On a daily basis, employees use computers and connected systems to access customer accounts, process upgrades, activate lines, check promotions, complete troubleshooting, and document interactions. Without computers, most of the work done in a retail wireless store would slow down or stop completely. One of the biggest functions computers serve in this industry is communication and account management. Employees need to quickly pull up customer information, review account history, verify eligibility for upgrades, and make changes in real time. Computers also help support inventory tracking, payment processing, and the use of internal systems that keep everything organized. This allows stores to operate more efficiently while providing customers with faster, more accurate service. Computer literacy is important in this kind of environment because employees are expected to m...

What I Learned About Network Connections Using Ping and Traceroute

Image
For this activity, I used the ping and traceroute commands to see how data travels across the Internet. I tested three different websites: google.com, yahoo.co.jp, and target.co.au. The goal was to understand how devices communicate over a network and how distance and routing affect performance. Running the ping command showed me how long it takes for data to travel from my computer to a website and back. What I noticed right away was that websites closer to my location had faster response times, while sites hosted farther away took longer. This made it clear that physical distance plays a big role in network speed. It also helped me understand why some websites feel faster than others, even when using the same internet connection. Traceroute gave me a different perspective by showing the path the data takes to reach its destination. Instead of just seeing speed, I could see each step along the way, including the different routers the data passed through. Some routes had more stops...

How Everyday Software Applications Help Me Stay Organized at Work

When I think about the technology I use on a daily basis, a lot of it comes down to four main types of applications: word processors, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and databases. Before this assignment, I never really thought about how each one plays a different role, but after breaking it down, it is clear how important they are, especially in a work environment like mine at T-Mobile. Word processors are probably the most straightforward. I use them whenever I need to document information, write observations, or communicate clearly and professionally. Whether it is writing feedback for my team or putting together notes, this type of application helps keep everything organized and easy to understand. The main advantage is its simplicity of use, but it can be limited when you need to analyze data or track performance. Spreadsheets are where things get more detailed. This is what I would use to track numbers, like sales performance, goals, or trends over time. What makes spreadshee...

How the GOAT App Simplifies Buying Sneakers Online

One app I use regularly is GOAT, which is designed for buying and selling sneakers. I chose to focus on this app because I personally use it and understand it well. GOAT makes it easy to browse different shoes, compare prices, and purchase items directly from your phone. One of its biggest features is authentication, which helps ensure the shoes being sold are authentic and not counterfeit. What stands out to me about GOAT is how easy it is to navigate the app. You can search for specific shoes, filter by size and price, and quickly see available options. The layout is clean, making the overall experience smoother, especially compared to other resale platforms that can feel cluttered. This shows how important design and user experience are in mobile applications. Another thing I noticed is how the app builds trust with users. Since fake sneakers are a big issue, GOAT verifies items before they are delivered. This adds an extra layer of security and makes users more comfortable spendi...

Learning the Basics of Programming Through Scratch

Getting hands-on with Scratch was my first real experience building something that actually functions like a program. Instead of just reading about coding concepts, I was able to put them into action and see how everything connects. My project used sprites, movement, and various logic blocks to create an interactive sequence that responds to what is happening on the screen. Scratch Link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1289445667 What I quickly realized is that programming is really about how you think, not just what you build. Every action in my project depended on the order in which I placed things. If something happened too early or too late, it would throw everything off. That forced me to slow down and think step by step, almost as if I were giving instructions to someone who needs every detail spelled out. Another thing that stood out was how often things did not work the first time. I had moments when actions kept repeating or triggering when they weren't supposed to. Fixin...
